Asset management according to NEN 2767 with IBM Maximo

So many people, so many opinions. This also applies to the inspection and maintenance of infrastructure. In order to determine the condition of infrastructure assets as objectively as possible, there is NEN 2767. With the results of a NEN 2767 condition assessment in IBM Maximo, you are able to better plan and budget maintenance work. How does that work?

NEN 2767 originally comes from the construction world, but is now also a well-known standard for condition assessment in the infrastructure sector. This standard helps you to carry out visual inspections on managed assets within an infrastructure according to a standardized method. Based on a fixed hierarchy and a standard list of the most common defects, you look at the condition of an asset. A distinction is made according to the types of materials used, such as wood, metal or plastic. A managed object can be a canal, for example. This object consists of elements, for example a waterway marking. Such an element in turn comprises a number of components, such as beacons, sector lights or locks. With NEN 2767 you map the condition of a managed object down to a predetermined level. The list of defects serves as a guideline. For each defect, you determine the severity, extent and intensity.

Well-founded maintenance choices based on NEN 2767 condition assessment

With a condition assessment based on NEN 2767, you arrive at the most objective possible picture of the state in which an asset is. It may be that your company is obliged to work according to NEN 2767, for example because a client requires this of you. But even if that is not the case, it is worth applying this standard. Because by always measuring the condition of managed objects in the same way, you can better see how the condition of an asset develops over time. This gives you more insight into your maintenance needs, also in the longer term.

This enables you to draw up a well-founded multi-year maintenance plan and make the right budget choices. Which managed object will your investments go to? What needs to be done when? And are you going for maintenance or replacement? Because you use the same method for different managed objects, for example two different tunnels, you can make better comparisons. Even if you have won a tender and are taking over the management of an asset from another party, it is useful to apply NEN 2767. This is how you arrive at an independent zero measurement.
